Did you know that in 2020 6,780 babies were born in Canterbury? Evidence shows that 10% (678) of these families would be eligible for support from a service such as Early Start!
As an NGO Early Start receives core funding from Oranga Tamariki, Canterbury DHB and the Ministry of Education to work with 389 Canterbury whānau.
Early Start focuses on providing vulnerable tamariki (children) in whānau (families) facing multiple challenges with an intensive long term responsive service to parents of young children. Tamariki within these whānau are often the most vulnerable in our community. Early Start responds to family need and work in partnership with whānau to support them to reach their goals – all of the time focusing on the outcome of practically supporting whānau to raise healthy, happy children in a nurturing family environment.
Your donation will make a positive difference in the lives of some of Canterbury’s most vulnerable tamariki (children) and their whānau (families).
Your donation will enable us to support whānau in a variety of ways:
- Grocery vouchers
- Infant and children’s clothing
- Baby safety gates, car seats and strollers
- Family health supplies and urgent medical costs
- Winter bedding
- Firewood, winter power bills
- Gardening supplies
- Extending whānau shared and memorable experiences
These are the ‘extras' that are not included in our core funding, however, can make such a difference to the quality of lives when finances are very tight as they are for many of the enrolled Early Start whānau.
